First day of the blog!

Welcome to our blog! We hope this will allow us to communicate more often with our families and friends in the United States.
To begin, let us introduce ourselves. We are Greg, Christy, Julianna, Laura, Thomas, and Matthew, and we live in downtown Cancun, Mexico. We moved here on March 1 to work with a partnership ministry between the Georgia Baptist Convention and the bautistia iglesia de Cancun. There are 38 Baptist Churches in Cancun. Our ministry has two goals: To facilitate the Cancun Bible Institute and to match volunteers churches from Georgia with churches here for missions projects.
The Cancun Bible Institute meets for a full week every other month for intense study for pastors and church leaders. Typically, ministers from Georgia volunteer their time to come and teach, although Greg has taught as well. Greg will begin teaching seminary level classes in August for the pastors who have some theological education. The Institute also cooperates with the Baptist Seminary in Merida, Mexico.
The second part of the job is what we are doing today, and what our kids like best!
Greg is at the airport today to welcome volunteers from Eastside Baptist Church, who will work with Maranatha Baptist Church here in Cancun. Last week the kids enjoyed Escuela Biblica de Vacaciones in Espanol, and they are excited about Bible Clubs this week in English and Espanol. Volunteers come from all over the state and do things to help strengthen the churches here like construction, sports evangelism, VBS, and prayer-walking.

Thomas, our 5 year old son, gave us another hospital trip today, falling on the steps – again – and trying to dislocate his kneecap. Fortunately, all is well. Again, we love the Mexico hospital system – x-rays, specialist and all for $64. In March and April, he visited twice with a broken arm and stitches in his chin!

  2. It was so good to receive your email and the one about the blog. We did not know about Dollie until after she had passed over you all. It was very good to hear that you all are O.K. I have two postcards of you all, one is on the frig (no waiting for the Mexician food) and one is in my Bible. I get to see all of your lovely faces each day for my devotional. I will be checking the blog to see how the prayers are going. I may need to go from daily to hourly for Thomas and Matt! Can’t wait to see you all next summer. Keep up the great work. P.S. loved the Barbie story. Can’t wait till I share this site with Mandy and the rest of the Grace gang.

  3. Hey Wares! Love the blog! We just returned from 12 days in Switzerland & Germany. We will keep praying for you! Love you all!
